about

(March 2021)

Greetings from the long dark of MidWestern winter, this piece emerged from a number of different elements I played with in February.

I was practicing feeling 5/4 and 5/8 at the same time or bringing what I think of as a more Western/binary rhythmic sensibility to 5 (rather than just 3+2 or 2+3). My metronome inspired the groove that this improvisation is based on.

I've also been playing with greenscreen tech as a way of having a little more control over the visual environment of my tracks. While I was buried in snow up here, it was fun to imagine myself somewhere else.

It had also been a while since I had done much with my electronic instruments or some of the great software I have. A piece with a little bit more of a Western sensibility felt like a good opportunity to play around.
