about

This world percussion music attempts to illustrate a kind of musical experience that is at the root of what I love about the universality of rhythm. When there's not a pandemic, people from any part of the world can come together and share rhythm and find that while the dialects may be different, it's a common language. Through this universal communication, citizens of the world can find greater connection with one another which fosters peace and understanding.

This music is improvisation based on a basic structure of four sections. I didn't know what I was going to play until I started playing. Each layer is a response to the layers that came before. I'm using polyrhythm and counterpoint to create a stratified tapestry. My focus was on the feeling and momentum of the rhythm. Some of you will be familiar with what I'm doing here. Feel free to dance!

This work was created as part of an online event hosted by the Shruti Foundation to benefit artists who are dealing with challenges during the pandemic (which is all of us really). I was given a week to conceive, record, mix and edit about 20 minutes of music/media together.

I learned that delivering on a production of this type would benefit from me having a faster computer. Anyone who would like to support my work can contribute via paypal to productions@resonantmind.com - Thank you!
